318 New Gardens in Afghanistan This Fall Thanks to the Jolica Foundation
"To be instrumental in changing the life of a woman in Afghanistan is an amazing and humbling feeling. It´s a whole new reason to host a party," says Ann-Michele Ewert, VP Sales for Jolica. At a Jolica party guests are offered a selection of silver jewelry, alpaca and silk scarves and leather handbags that have been handcrafted by Jolica´s fair trade artisan partners around the world. With every purchase, Five percent is designated to the Jolica Foundation which this fall supported the garden project. In many cases this fall, party hostesses met their goals for their party to provide a garden.

While the hostesses appreciated the product benefits of their parties, making a different in another woman´s life was profoundly rewarding. Jolica Gift Consultants were similarly deeply moved that by providing an income for their own families they were providing an income for Afghan families as well as the artisans crafting the products themselves. The Jolica team had set a goal to provide 200 gardens over the fall. This target was met early on and the team exceeded all expectations by reaching the 318 mark. "The day we hit 200 gardens, my phone was ringing off the hook," says Ewert. "When we wrapped up the fall season having reached 318 there was an indescribable sense of accomplishment."
Each party could be leveraged to such a degree because of the way the project was designed by MEDA to maximize the value of every dollar invested. The multiplying effect provided by MEDA was critical to Jolica reaching the 318 garden mark.
With the start of a new season this January, the Jolica Foundation is now focused on providing heaters for our artisan partners in Chile.
