Top U.S. Diplomat Urges Inclusive Somali Government
Top US State Department diplomat Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson said during news conference at the State department that a long-term solution in Somalia is political not military, and that the TFG needs to widen its base to include major clans and sub-clans, along with Islamic moderates who want peace and denounce Al-Shabab. Somali government need to "pull together and include more Somali clans and sub clans and with Islamic moderates."
The United States continued to seek an "inclusive" political resolution to Somalia's crisis and believed that the transitional government, which only controls a portion of Mogadishu, was best placed to promote one. The U.S. assistant secretary of African Affairs chief told the reporters.
His comments came as press reports that covert U.S. forces may stage air strikes or otherwise become directly involved in helping the TFG in a planned offensive against Islamic insurgents. "The United States does not plan, does not direct, and does not coordinate the military operations of the TFG and we have not and will not be providing direct support for any potential military offensives. Further we are no providing, or paying for military advisers for the TFG. There is no desire to Americanize the conflict in Somalia," he said.
The United States had high hopes after the Sheikh Sharif´s election in Djibouti Conference. A one that will promote inclusive government, lead to a broad-based government that will provide the stability and security needed to allow Somalia to have affective central government.
The Diplomatic positions and the key Ministers are in the hands of inexperienced corrupt friends of The President´s Asmara Group. If Sharif´s government wants to enjoy The backing of Somali people and the international community it need to include more Somalis professionals, Moderates and clans and sub clans who feel they are excluded from the TFG.
